To move forward, let go of what's keeping you stuck

- Tracey Hancock

In Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying she says, “The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming now, not for the person we were in the past.”

What a statement.

It’s freeing.

It’s a great big permission slip.

It’s an opportunity to begin anew.

That is of course if you choose to take it that way.

If you look around you now, how much of what you see serves you well or brings you a sense of joy?

Honestly. Truthfully. How does it make you feel?

Holding onto things and staying stuck

Do you keep things out of a sense of obligation or duty, worrying what people will think if you get rid of something they gave you? Maybe it was something you inherited or perhaps a gift from a friend, and giving it away might imply that you don't care the person or that you might upset them.

Perhaps you feel it would be wasteful to get rid of things because there’s nothing wrong with them. They still work or are okay to be used, but you’ve just never used them or perhaps only infrequently. If the item is still in its original box or tucked in a cupboard somewhere, then it's time to go.

Or maybe the possessions provide you with a sense of comfort and safety. Things from a past relationship that you hold onto as a way of keeping the memories alive, or the items are simply familiar and you know them well.

We stay stuck when we hold on

When you cling to things, even though they no longer serve you (or perhaps never did), they don’t reflect who you are and where you’re at now, and you remain stuck in the past.

Beautiful one, it’s time to release what no longer serves you, to release what no longer brings you joy.

And it’s not just physical possessions either, it’s thoughts, beliefs, relationships, environments and situations.

It’s time to acknowledge that their role in your life has come to an end and it’s time to move on.

Your energy is affected too

Imagine standing in a thick gooey pool of mud. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to walk forward, the mud keeps you stuck where you are. Even trying to raise your leg just slightly is a struggle – it’s tiring and energy sapping work for little, or no, progress.

It’s the same when you cling to things from your past. While those things might be familiar, if they no longer serve you or bring you joy, they’re keeping you stuck, dulling your sparkle and preventing you from stepping into the light and being your true self now.

Release yourself of any guilt you feel about moving on. You are not the same version of yourself as you were all those years ago, or even yesterday. And know that ...

It is okay to re-gift, re-cycle, re-purpose or get rid of what no longer serves you.

Give yourself permission now to acknowledge and release the things, thoughts, beliefs, relationships, environments, and situations that no longer serve you. When you do this, this seemingly simply act, you're saying "yes" to moving forward and being open to new possibilities. Become more of you now by releasing what you cling to, it's time to move forward.
